"What did I tell you? I told you he would be wearing Nikes. I guess he thinks those shoes have wings. What’s your excuse?" Nathan looked up at Martin and shouted, "It’s okay. I’m wearing my wing tips today." Martin slipped as he sneered at Nathan’s attempt at humor. Struggling to keep his balance, Martin climbed toward Nathan, answering him. "Very funny. You think I’m coming down there to help you? Well, you’re wrong. I’m beating the s--- out of you as soon as I get there." The young man stared in bewilderment at both Nathan and Martin. And both were getting very close. He waited impatiently for the ferry to reach the bridge. As the ferry approached, the kid began to get ready to jump. Both Nathan and Martin stopped their descent when they saw it was too late. Nathan angrily watched as the young man crouched and started to jump. Out of fear, the young black man did jump, but way too soon, missing the boat by several feet. Nathan and Martin turned and faced each other. Not believing their incredible stroke of luck, Martin and Nathan blank stares soon turned into smiles as they laughed. Nathan continued to climb down to the foot of the bridge. He waited until the ferry was well under the bridge and jumped on it. He went to where the ferry’s staff was still trying to save the young man. The boat had now stopped and its alarm blowing. Several of the passengers and various crewmembers were pulling the kid up when Nathan arrived to help pull the kid to safety. Once out of the water, Nathan handcuffed him. He searched for Martin on the bridge. Martin was screaming "ye-hah" and dancing when Nathan saw him. Nathan started dancing, swaying his arms and hips. Martin turned to Barney who was still barking and threw his arm up in the air yelling, "woof, woof."

She has written several articles for medical and nursing magazines and editorials for local newspapers. Deadly Affections is her first novel. She is married to a Fort Worth policeman. Sharon and her husband Ronnie have three children and live in Fort Worth, Texas.
