In a Spirit of Survival

When she spoke, the man to her right, looked in shock; the paranoia a coward exhibits when he realizes he’s about to be discovered. Even though the spider had her spun up in his web and tranquilized with his venom, he was obviously amazed that Sandy Holland could say anything at all. If she were to read his expression in any language, it seemed to say thus, "This isn’t supposed to happen," and "Oh! No! She’s coming out of it!"

In his surprise, he reached over quickly to touch a small silver switch and flip it upwards on a machine that reminded Sandy of an amplifier, at the bottom right hand corner on the floor near her bed. It was at that moment that she realized her physical brain and this machine were one and that it was responsible for the steady hum in her head and the deep state she had been in. When he flipped the switch the hum got much louder and more intense, which put her out completely.

When Sandy looked at the area where she remembered the machine sitting the night before, she was surprised to see part of a muddy square and part of a muddy straight line. Direct physical evidence to the person who experienced it, but not anything she even dreamed of sharing back then.

If her own scar and mole were gone, then, too, perhaps any evidence of what they might have done to her. (This wouldn’t be the first time this happened, that they covered for themselves so well, nor that she had or would continue to wake up feeling very strange in areas all over her body in the morning).

"Who but God would know what they did to me? Even more, why? Of all people, why would they bother a lost, sickly soul like myself? Who are they? Aliens? What were they doing to me? What gives them the right?" Sandy asked, so full of questions.

Another afternoon in this duplex unusual sensations were felt. Leto said it was a psychic attack. Chanting was heard, though not clearly. Sandy did not understand it, nor how it finally stopped when it did.

Another morning at this location she woke up distinctly feeling words being formed out of her mouth. She had this feeling that she had been doing a lot of talking about technological developments. The last words she remembered saying were about ‘telemetry grids,’ and she saw in her mind a vision of a white domed structure. She had never heard of nor seen such a thing before that she could recall in the present.

As with other mornings, Leto was exasperated at her lack of memory. He began to also describe beings that looked just like the one she saw at the right side of her bed that night and said she was talking to them all night long with her eyes open, but still she would not remember a thing, and what little did return seemed to be only by accident. In her youth, and since she wasn’t the one remembering anything, she didn’t question it for long. She had no real interest in things that couldn’t be proven. They were just quickly forgotten as tall tales, dreams or hallucinations.
