About the Book

Hope Unborn, Unborn, Unborn is a non-fiction book in which the writer seeks to illustrate issues of racism in the past, and currently in Major League Baseball. Some of these issues are well known and documented; however, some of these issues have never before been addressed, or explored.

It has been said, "baseball is a reflective microcosm of our society." In Hope, Unborn, Unborn, Unborn I sought, through the eyes of baseball history, to utilize a descriptive and informative language, historical facts, and my personal experiences to educate the reader on racism in sports and baseball in particular.

My wife Rubye inspired the title of this book. It is taken from the Negro National Anthem Lift Every Voice And Sing" which was written at my alma mater, Florida Memorial College by James Weldon Johnson. A part of a verse in the song states that "Hope Unborn has died," which carries the full compliments of the book’s intentions.

About the Author

I was born in the early forties in Lakeland, Florida. It was a time at the ending of World War II. It was a time to put the country back together, and we did in some ways. As an African-American, my goals were limited, but my parents and grandparents were proponents of education. So, off to college it was for me after stardom in the Florida State Negro League Baseball Tournament. I wanted to play professionally and had a chance, but I was overruled by my parents/grandparents.

My choice of course would more than likely be a Black Historical College or University (HBCU). Since my grandfather was a Baptist minister and a trustee at Florida Memorial College, an HBCU, and a friend of the college president, I would say that in those years my choice was already made.

For thirty-seven years I worked professional as a teacher, social worker, youth counselor, coach, and educator. Voluntarily, I have worked as a college and prep school recruiter, group leader, and recreation supervisor.

Educationally, I have a B. S. degree in Education with special graduate training in counseling. The schools I have attended are Florida Memorial College, Trenton State Teacher’s College, and Rider University.

Some of my most enjoyable memories have been when I have helped students to achieve their goal of reaching college or prep school on a scholarship.

I have been married for thirty-seven years to a wonderful wife, Ruybe and we have two children, Martin and Reo. Currently, I am retired and living in metro Atlanta, Georgia.
