About the Book
Driven by Instinct is a medical thriller in which Beckett O’Neil, a Midwest medical student, allows her intuition to override the medical opinions of experienced attending physicians, only to be drawn into a maze of conspiracy, homicide, and biological warfare.
Russell Harper is brought to Alexander Medical Hospital incoherent, with a rash and fever. Hospital personnel were unable to diagnose the illness as Russ’s condition deteriorated.
Beckett O’Neil goes against the grain and sets out to investigate the cause of Russ’s problems. Drawing Brad Parker into her investigation, they set out across the Iowa countryside, discovering the Bishop Brothers, puppets of Victor Markus, a well-known underworld crime boss. Victor’s hate, anger, and world-wide connections lead Beckett and Brad to a microbiologist on the west coast, blackmailed by Markus into harvesting organisms capable of destroying any adversaries that get in his way.
Before Beckett and Brad can reveal this information, Beckett’s long-time mentor, Dr. Max Fisher, is murdered. Becket and Brad are kidnapped and, in a dramatic warehouse scene, one of the Bishop brothers is killed. Brad and Beckett, though, are rescued and Beckett finds the very last thing in the world she was looking for, Bradley Parker Ryan, a friend and a lover, yet the same emergency room resident she once found deplorable.
