The semester was winding down, and as I said, the holidays helped speed things up. I can’t go back to Boy’s High next semester, or ever. I’m gonna wind up in the basement with the other nice kids. "I’m not going back to Boy’s High next term." "Over my dead body." "Okay, if that’s what you want. Then don’t complain when I come home drunk. And don’t complain when these kids make me drink beer or they’ll beat me up." "So, that’s it. I knew it all the time, you can’t fool me. Why didn’t you tell me?" "Ah, I didn’t want you to worry." "Well, I’m telling you now, and I don’t care what you say. You are not going back to that school." "Ah Mom, come on." "I don’t want to hear it, and that’s final, you’re not going back!" "Okay Mom." So ended Boy’s High. Now comes another big crisis in my family. By family, I mean Mother, Father, aunts, uncles, and of course, cousin George. Where do we send Bobby? Manual Training was still out of the question. They didn’t have much of a choice because of my marks, not too many schools would accept me. Out of the blue comes a cousin of my Aunt’s . . . Brother Bill. He was a Catholic Brother, and a nice guy, always said nice things about me and to me. "What about a boarding school? There he could be off the streets and some place where he wouldn’t have any choice, but to study." A boarding school. Are you crazy? Wait a second, they may have something there. It would mean leaving home and getting out of this depressing environment. No yelling, no screaming, no beatings from Uncle Ralph, I could be left alone. Come to think of it, those Andy Hardy movies were fun. Mickey Rooney always seemed to be having a good time. I could see it now, raccoon coats, jalopies, dances, football games, and girls. "All right, if you think I should go, I’ll go."

About the Book
About the book and why I wrote it - two reasons, Jennifer and Jessica, my daughters. Several years ago I sat in my studio in Los Angeles wondering if I would ever get the opportunity to grow up with my daughters, who were living in the Bay Area (northern California). I wondered if they would ever get the chance to know who their father really was. That would be difficult to find out from anyone else but me. You see, no one ever really knew me as I was. I shared some of my life with their mother, but not all, so she couldn’t give them the real me. My parents and three sisters only know what took place in our home and not the real life that I lived and had kept from them, afraid of criticism and guilt from my parents. I grew up in Brooklyn, in not one, but several different neighborhoods at the same time. I experienced many other walks of life. My family and our group couldn’t or wouldn’t understand the other, so I never shared with anyone. I want to now. I wrote this book with pencil and paper, and never read any of it while I was writing it. I wrote until my hand got tired. I was forced to proofread it after it was typed. It was like reading about someone else at times. I laughed, I cried, I smiled - I hope you do too.
About the Author
Robert Cory was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, until the age of 19, when he left for California to fulfill his fantasies and dreams. Nothing came easy, but he survived and went on to a life full of adventures and accomplishments. He even survived three near-death experiences, on being pronounced dead. He was an actor and an interior designer. As an interior designer he traveled to different parts of the world and was featured in Architectural Digest for his work. He was an executive producer for television, a publisher and owner of a newspaper, and an author of a book titled Bottom Lines to Life. He is now living in San Francisco, California, loving life and feeling his mission is to make others feel the same. He is currently working on a second book to share some more of his adventurous life.
