Can Pink Flamingos Fly?

Standing on stick legs,
their pink round bodies defy their graceful necks
that curve, and give mystery to what otherwise
might be ordinary.
Their pinkness never failing to make one smile.
Their color and attitude adorning
backyards across America
make a statement.
Conjuring tackiness to those who
believe in a realm of normalcy and
shear freedom of spirit
to those less interested in protocol.
As they stand so still and bright,
the question of flight comes to mind--
images of movies or lines in books
of their native land arise,
and one can see large flocks fluently lifting their
pink plumage and webbed feet
upward to heaven, upward to freedom.
That’s why they stand in all our gardens.
To allow us thoughts of heavenly flight
no matter what our form and
inspire us to break free.
Oh joy, to pinkness!
