About the Book

This book provides information about women’s contributions throughout history from over 175 countries around the world. Its goal is to furnish information about the achievements that women have made over the years so that they can take pride in the accomplishments of their gender. The contributions cover a broad range of fields including writing (books and poetry), medicine (nurse and doctor), education, science (mathematics, botany, astronomy, chemistry, physics, etc.), law, social reform (especially women’s suffrage), inventing, business, religion, politics (queens, presidents, ambassadors, etc.), sports (Olympics), aviation, and space.

The information is arranged by region and alphabetically by country. Each entry contains the woman’s name, key dates together with biographical information about her achievements and recognition or awards. Many of these women were first in their country to receive recognition in their fields.

About the Author

A retired government employee, Alice H. Deck has been active in the Federal Women’s Program since 1994. In 1999 she received her Associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems and won the Woman of the Year award at work. A combination of the love of reading and research; introduction to the Internet and its vast resources of information; and the encouragement of her fellow members at the Federal Women’s Program was instrumental in making this book a reality. She is currently working on her second book A History of Poland and hopes to make writing her new career.
