About the Book

He was a veteran of WWI who had returned to become a prominent orthopedic surgeon in his home town in Illinois. He was married to an attractive, socially active woman with whom he had two children. Tall, handsome, with a congenial personality, he was respected by family, friends, patients, and the community.

She was a young, intelligent, attractive nurse from a large family in a small town in Indiana. She was recently divorced from a short and very unhappy marriage, which had produced a child that died shortly after birth. Moving to Illinois and working at the nearby hospital, she began a new life for herself. Unfortunately it was not to be the kind of life she had hoped for.

The consequences of their love affair are revealed in this collection of his letters to her over a span of nearly six years.

About the Author

Ruth E. (Runyan) Dorman is a retired nurse. She is married with six children and eleven grandchildren. Ruth was born in 1940 in a maternity hospital in Kansas City, MO. Her mother, a young, unmarried woman, could not raise her as her own child because of the social attitudes of the time. Ruth’s father was a prominent doctor; a married man with two children. He was admired and respected by his peers and community. Ruth never knew him, meeting him only once when she was a small child. These are the letters her father wrote to her mother from 1938-1944. They tell the story of their love for each other, a love they had to keep concealed from everyone or their reputations and careers would be ruined.

Pamela (Dorman) Wilson was born and raised in Indiana. Pamela is the oldest daughter of Ruth and now lives in Honolulu, HI.
