Three gifts my father gave my mother made a lifetime impression on me - a light colored wood jewelry box with velvet lining, a blue-green musical powder box that played "Let Me Call You Sweetheart", and a bouquet of wild lilacs he picked from a fence row. I can still see my father's tanned, smiling face as he presented the lilacs to her, and her pretty face breaking into a smile as she accepted them. Mother put the lilacs in a water glass and placed them on the kitchen table. I sat in my chair with arms on the table and chin on my arms admiring and smelling the beautiful lavender flowers. Something special had happened. I was only six years old and didn't understand what it was, but I wanted to experience the look they exchanged, their laughter, his gift. In time the jewelry box became a catch all for pins, scissors, and odd buttons. Mother had only her wedding band and a few pieces of costume jewelry. The music box disappeared. But the lilacs are forever captured in my memory. When I see or smell a lilac bush, I return to that warm, summer day and remember pretty smiles and dancing eyes. I believe those gifts began my fascination with romance and true love.

About the Author
When Barbara Popyach was a teenager she heard Zsa Zsa Gabor say, "Darling, have at least three professions in case two of them don't work out." Barbara's many professions include toy buyer, office manager, fund raiser, model, television personality, image consultant, speaker, seminar facilitator, president of her own cosmetics and skin-care business, and newspaper columnist. She is an interfaith minister, a Reiki master, and an Angelspeake facilitator. She teaches prosperity and loving relationship classes, and she officiates weddings. Primary Focus, a television production company, filmed Barbara's Angels Unaware story, which aired on nationwide television in May 2001. Her next book, A Tiger Has Her By The Tail, is about unusual and unorthodox characters she has been fortunate enough to encounter. Barbara and her husband Stephen live in Kentucky.
