WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF HIS LOVE
When I was about three years old, my family went on vacation to some near-by caves. We paid our admission and waited for the guide to begin conducting the tour, but as we stepped into the darkness and began to follow the tour guide I became scared. Only the adults were allowed flashlights so us little folk were left to walk in the light that our parent's held. There were gigantic sandstone cones that came up from the floor and hung from the ceiling and to my three year old mind looked like giant teeth that were just waiting to eat up a tiny little girl. I refused to continue on. My mother had her hands full of kids and nothing left to give to me. So, my dad reached down and took my hand and said, "You won't be scared if you hold my hand, will you, Sissy?"
I looked up at my six foot two inch dad, grabbed his hand real tight and replied: "No. I'll go with you if you'll hold on to my hand, Daddy."
The way was long, taking about an hour and a half. There were abysses to pass over, places where there were unexpected depressions, and trails so thin you could only go single file. Daddy just told me to walk in the light of the flashlight he was holding. The whole time my dad held my hand so I would not fall.
When we got close to the end of the caves, it began to get a lot lighter. I was tempted to let go of my dad's hand, but overcame and kept a secure hold and with his help, exited into the gift shop. However, in the last 100 yards or so of the cave there had been sharp rocks and depressions I could not see except by the light that my dad held. By overcoming the temptation of letting go and running to the lighted glass of the gift shop I was spared a lot of hurt and pain.
When we flowed into the gift shop, our parents told us to pick a souvenir and we each procured a token gift. I picked a small stuffed dog I could hold in my tiny hands and pretend I was petting.
As we neared the car, my older sister, Lea, waited for all the other kids to get into the car so she could sit next to the door. My dad still had a hold of my hand and told her to get in the car. She fussed and fumed and said I was a baby and should not be allowed to sit next to the door because I would open the door and get us all killed. Dad replied, "Sissy has proven herself today, so I am letting her sit next to the door. She was not scared and kept a hold of my hand. She did everything I told her to do, so she is getting a reward for her behavior."
After getting us kids settled in the back seat, Dad then explained to me not to touch the lock or the door handle until we were at our next destination or I would fall out and get hurt or killed. I folded my hands together and placed them in my lap so I would not be tempted to maneuver something I should not touch. We then headed on to our next place to see.
Have you ever felt like you were in a place where it was so dark that you were afraid that you would never see the light at the end? Never fear, just keep a hold of the Father's hand, walk in the light of His love and He will see you through the troubles, trials, and storms that assail you. When you begin to see the light, do not let go of Jesus' hand, just keep clinging onto it. He will help you past the unexpected depressions and faults, the sharp edges and bad places yet to come that you still can not see. Walk in His light and keep pace with Him and He will see you to the end safely.
When the trial is over, not only will you be in the light of His love, but you will also receive a gift that is just your size and have new responsibilities on top of it all. God is faithful and will reward those that diligently seek Him. Praise Him for the answer and believe Jesus for the miracle He is creating just for you. God bless you.
"Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name: bring an offering, and come before Him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Fear before Him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, the LORD reigneth."
I Chronicles 16: 28-31
"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the amour of light."
Romans 13: 2
"What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops."
Matthew 10: 27
"He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked. Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye have heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth."
I John 2: 6-8
