INTRODUCTION
God blessed us with emotions of love and compassion. Satan cursed us with emotions of hate and revenge. To close your eyes to evil and walk away without a response is wrong. Sometimes a negative response is necessary to show you do not agree. Walking away is to my mind, nodding agreement to let these acts continue. You have to get involved. You have to make a commitment and ask yourself if this is right or wrong. You have to get involved.
One purpose of my book is to remind people that God gave us the gift of life to love one another, not to hate one another. Hate is the devil's work. Hate will eventually destroy you if you let it take control of your life. Hatred is like the gasoline you add to the flames of negative thinking. Love is the fuel you need to connect with others to live with each other in harmony.
This book is about truth and regard for important issues that face our nation. These concerns should not be taken lightly. My wish is to get the public involved in finding a way to make a difference by making informed choices. This book is about my life and how people who placed ambition and pride over all other values affected it. It is about the hatred that cost this country many lives. It is also about people who fought for just the opposite. People who stand out in my mind because they went beyond ordinary weaknesses to stand up for what they felt was right. They showed courage in the face of fear and carried on bravely for their fellow man for justice and freedom.
I ask that each reader seriously consider the evidence I present and form their own opinions on some controversial issues. I want you to stop and think about what life really should be directed towards. As I present my thoughts and experiences you will come to know that I place a high value on empathy and compassion for people. My hope is that this book will help remind you of the injustices all around us. My mission is to keep the heroes of the last century fresh in our minds so that their humanitarian efforts will be passed down to our next generation.
I am fulfilling my promise to the many soldiers of the 36th Infantry Division who fought and died needlessly on the battlefield at the Rapido River Crossing.
This book is about my "Boiling Mad!" response that provoked anger and empathy in me at events that happened to me and others in my lifetime. This anger and empathy reached its zenith when as a GI in Italy during World War II. The ineptness of our commanders put our men through undue suffering because they lacked the skill to lead and plan the right strategy that could spare all this unnecessary tragedy. I will tell it like it was and pull no punches. Just the truth is enough. The evidence is there for the reader to see, to respond, to think and to act on. I believe they will respond as I did at the time. Chance, luck and destiny made all this possible. The wings of fate swept me upon its magic flight and set the stage for this great adventure. I grabbed it and wrote it and I am giving it to my readers as it happened. This lighting rod should provoke a fire in the reader. It should awaken in them a response and a call to action. The injustices that touched me, makes it imperative to finally realize "we are our brother’s keeper." We must refocus to the values, the sense of purpose and a love of people, not negative things like bias and hate. We need the courage to meet challenges and be willing to make changes, the right changes to improve the quality of life, not only for ourselves but everyone around us as Coretta King says, "As long as I cannot be who I am supposed to be you cannot be who you are supposed to be." Words so true. This book is written to stir this burning fire and flame to touch you to the depth of your soul. "Boiling Mad!" is a misnomer because I want it to set off an explosion felt worldwide like the explosion of an atom bomb. With your help dear reader, it will happen!
This book not only encompasses events in Europe with the American GI, it takes you to my talks with Richard Nixon, Robert Kennedy, Frank Sinatra and top music people; and also the former Chancellor of Germany, the King of Hungary, and German generals who helped us win World War II. This includes my meeting Otto Scorzeny, the dashing Errol Flynn-like hero who rescued Mussolini from captivity. Scorzeny challenged danger at every turn in his lifetime. Many dangers for our country lurk in the shadows waiting to happen. This book takes you there, to caution and alert you.
