About the Book
This book is intended for children to get their start in musical appreciation by reading short stories and then using the accompanying coloring book, which emphasizes the various musical "characters" acting like little musicians.
Harmy is about a little harmonica boy who was trying to play in an orchestra, but was rebuffed by the conductor. He finally finds a circus band leader who lets him play in the orchestra with his 100 harmonica friends.
About the Author
Miriam Shapiro is a concert pianist and teacher who has composed hundreds of songs. She has now devoted her time writing children’s musical books and her first published book is Harmy and His 100 Harmonica Friends, which is being published as a book and coloring book combined.
This fresh new musical character wants to perform in an orchestra but ends up performing in the circus band.
Miriam thought harmonicas would be a good way to start children’s musical education. Music and art funds have dried up in the public school curriculum; nevertheless, children need musical appreciation, and this book is a good way to expose them to that purpose.
This is the first of many musical theme stories that Miriam is going to write and publish.
