A mournful wail, like that of a mortally wounded animal, pierced the night and echoed across the rooftops as the soul of Harry Hill collapsed within itself. He knelt in his wife's blood and held her in his arms. He watched helplessly as the life faded from her eyes, as her last breath became a gurgling silence. 'Tracy, oh God, Tracy!" He could not feel his mind slipping into non-reality, brutalized by the pain that enveloped him. Again, he created a scream so deep, so painful, that the neighbors in the building came running in alarm. 'Tracy!" Out of the corner of his eye Harry caught the shadow of a black-clad figure slipping toward the open door. Without thinking, without really knowing, he leapt to his feet and attacked the killer of his beloved wife. The intruder drew a bloodied knife and lunged. Parrying the thrust, Harry brought his foot into the man's groin and, as he doubled up, Harry smashed a knee into his face. Ignoring the knife and grabbing the man's hair with one massive hand, and his belt with the other, Harry slammed his knee into the small of his back. The last sound the intruder heard on earth was that of shattering bone. The neighbors arrived at the doorway just in time to witness the killer's death spasm.
The days that followed would forever be vague and shadowed in Harry's mind. Harry went away to the beach hoping to find some semblance of peace, but it was not to be. Ever so slowly he began to awaken from his nightmare. One morning, several days later, while standing on the beach staring into infinity, reality came creeping back. The sun was setting the horizon aglow and erasing the night when his shock began to subside. With reality's return came a pain so dark and so deep that his very soul went to the edge of panic. There was no place to run, no place to hide from these feelings that smothered him. Feelings of hopelessness for the future, hopelessness for his dreams, hopelessness for any moment of happiness for the rest of his life. This new reality closed out all good things and boxed him in with a pain that he did not think he could bear.

About the Author
Abraham Thomy, son of immigrant Lebanese parents, grew up in Lake City, South Carolina. His bi-cultural background and his inherent love of life are two of the ingredients that make up this engaging man. At the age of 16 he was introduced to the world of photography, and discovered his life’s work. He studied under the late Sanbourn Chase, served in World War II as a photographer, and then continued his education at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. He was nationally recognized for his photographs of literary figures, society and political leaders, television and film stars and internationally known personalities. (Alben W. Barkley, U.S. Vice President; Fred M. Vinson, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court; Bernard Baruch, American business leader, diplomat and advisor to presidents; Joan Blondell, Hollywood Actress; and Mickey Spillane, famed mystery writer, to name a few.) When he received a commendation by the Legislature of South Carolina, an associate stated, "Abe Thomy’s knowledge of human nature and keen insight enable him to reproduce on film the finest characteristics of his subjects." It is this knowledge that enables Mr. Thomy to write about his life experiences and to excel as a dynamic, inspirational speaker to a variety of audiences.
