PROLOGUE Sacramento, Early summer 1996 "ANESTHESIOLOGIST TO THE E.R. STAT. Pediatrician to the E.R stat." Anesthesiologist Claude Masters sensed the opportunity. He ran to the emergency room, glaring at the ward clerk on his way in. Young, firm body, another b**ch who had rejected him. He entered room two and rapidly made his way through the crowd surrounding the gasping child. "Out of my way son," he said to a very shaky resident. "Give me a hand here, nurse." Performing the intubation, he glanced at her name tag, Donna Allison. Suddenly the curtain to the room opened as Chief Administrator, Petra Corson, charged in, her attention riveted on Masters. "I’m saving a life," said Masters. "Get out of my hospital," she said. There was a hushed silence in the room. "You son of a b**ch, you’ve done enough. Now get out of my hospital." He remained eerily calm. "I responded to the page." "You are on suspension until the executive committee releases you," she whispered. "You are one inch from prison. Don’t screw with me, get your a** out of here." He openly sneered. "Good job everyone." He nodded and sauntered out. Petra closed the curtain. "This never happened," she said looking at everyone, demanding eye contact. The only sound was the child’s ventilator. "For all our sakes, this never happened." As if on cue, the curtain was again jerked open. The child’s mother ran in and placed her head on his chest. "Thank you Jesus, sweet Jesus." Petra turned away. "There is no Jesus in this place," she hissed.

About the Author
Bruce Alan Bob was born April 11, 1945. He has practiced obstetrics and gynecology for two decades. Married for twenty-five years, family, friends, gourmet food and wine, exercise, golf, and reading are his loves.
Professional interests focus on laser surgery, infertility, and microsurgical reconstruction. He is regional medical director for a managed care company, supervising four hundred physicians with responsibility for 125,000 lives.
He is writing his second novel, Nothing But the Truth, a fast-paced medical malpractice thriller.
