Alex almost pushed Chris aside. He took Anne by the shoulders. His face was a mask of emotion about to erupt. Anne pulled back, trying to show him her find. "I searched the north wing. I found a room, a secret room and I found them. I really found them!" "You little fool! Do you think I care about the paintings? You were foolish to put yourself in danger!" Alex looked at Anne, shaking his head, clutching at her as if he would never let go. The tears that were so close to the surface for the last hour came out. She was sobbing. "I--I only wa...nted to help you." Suddenly, Alex was kissing Anne squarely on the mouth, on the cheeks, on the lips again and he was holding her as if something beyond his will had taken over. Then just as suddenly, he stepped back and gently pushed her away. "I--forgive me, both of you. I have no right." He turned and left the cottage.

About the Book
Anne Biron and her aunt, Lorraine Landin, have been touring France for several weeks, but it isn't until Anne steps into Fenwick Travel in Nice that strange things begin to happen. Anne finds herself stared at, and later in the village that the travel agent recommended, the staring continues. She discovers she is an exact image of the Countess Marie-Claire d'Aspremont, the patroness of the village who lived three hundred years before. Her likeness to the countess, and curiosity by Count Alexandre, propel her into an adventure that fate seems to have ordained for her. Her life time love and knowledge of art and her recent Master's Degree in Art History from Yale, make her double aware of subtle changes in some of the paintings at the young count's home, which lead her to believe that some of the Impressionist painting s have been forged. The die is cast, and it begins-- the danger, the mystery, the kidnapping and the developing love story, all of which eventually lead to the answers the young Alexandre has sought since his parents were killed in a plane crash taking paintings to be appraised five years before.
About the Author
Rita J. Myntti writes under her maiden name, Rita J. Beron. She lived in twenty-six different areas of the country while following her husband's career pursuits, and has traveled widely throughout the world. During this time she raised five children, attended universities throughout the country and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. Her desire has always been to write. For the first time in her life, she has a corner of her own and the time to pursue her own dreams.
