NOTE TO PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS AND CARE-GIVERS: 'My dad is a Giant' is much more than a coloring book. It is meant to provide an opportunity for parents and children to interact and discuss social and safety issues while having fun. After Kenny Manzanares wrote this delightful story with his son Josh in mind, Lyle Bauer went to work on the illustrations. The drawings and story combine to present an affectionate and humorous view of a child's perception of the differences between himself and his parents, particularly his dad. Not only is his dad so much bigger, but he gets to do more such as drive a 'giant truck'. Parents' examples are of course, the first children learn from and are so important,
The original concept of the book was expanded to include pages that would give parents an opportunity to discuss a variety of subjects and learning skills from memorizing addresses to learning shapes and sounds, to table manners and stranger danger. Lyle's wife, Silvanna wrote the interactive pages to help parents bring up situations a child may encounter and help them to look at different choices. As the story is read, parents may refer to the pages cited at the bottom of the story page in the skills section in the back of the book. The parent may then discuss the choices and why one choice is better than another. Establishing communication on simple matters while children are young is essential if we are to help them make good choices when they are older.

About the Author
About the Author, Ken Manzanares:
I was raised in a large family of seven children. My father was a giant part of all our lives and continues to be. I learned a lot of great qualities from him and always looked at him as a giant. This story was written for my son when he was 5 years old. I hope that when he is 50 years old, he will still view me as I did my father -- as a giant.
About the Illustrator, Lyle Bauer:
I have always enjoyed drawing. My brother and I used to draw on paper sacks on the kitchen floor when we were kids. Although I've done T-shirt and greeting card illustrations, this is my first work published in book form. I hope it reflects my love of drawing and the world as children see it.
About the Interactive Pages Lady:
Silvanna Bauer has been the energizing force behind this project. Not only has she stood behind the author and artist (sometimes with a big club), but has been relentless in finding a way to get My Dad is a Giant published. She wrote the 'interactive skills' pages that go along with the story.
