When the Civil War ended, T.J. Trager gave up soldiering and returned to Colorado Territory to build a cattle ranch. Ten years later he viewed his ranch, the Double T, with pride, but before that summer was half over, things happened that changed his life. For a time, he knew boundless joy, but when it ended, he thought the pain and bitterness would go on forever. His trail was rough and rocky, uphill and down, but never easy and seldom calm. However, what happened in 1902 became a flickering light that, against his will, brought back to life what he had been missing. All he had to do was let it happen and maybe encourage it just a little.
