About the Book
I wrote each of these poems out of my love for Jesus Christ. As I came to know more about Him, I would sit down and start writing to Him because sometimes I could not verbally express myself to Him. So writing about God became one of my favorite pastimes. I loved knowing that God was a person and that I didn’t have to look at Him as a distant Spirit in the distant blue yonder. He was as close to me as my own breath! To me that was very exciting and very helpful in time of need! I knew that God was always standing by to heed my every cry! I learned a lot about the love of God through my fellowship with Jesus Christ and through reading the Word of God. In my personal life I felt so unloved. I felt that no one cared for me. It was hard at times to grasp or understand the love of God since I never really had anyone to really express verbally their love for me. Through my experiences in life and just getting to know God it was hard for me to accept that God could say, "Willie I love you." As I write each poem, I use the names of God and Jesus interchangeably. I use their names as if I am speaking about the same person. In reality I was talking about the same person. For in the book of John Jesus tells his disciples that He and God were the same.
About the Author
Willie Mewborn is a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church, Durham, NC, where the pastors are Donald and Nora Fozard. She is a Sunday School Teacher for ages 2-5 at Mt. Zion. She is also a volunteer teacher at C. A. Dillon, where she teaches young incarcerated boys ages 12-17 the Word of God. Teaching is one of her favorite pastimes. Willie began writing as early as 12 years of age. As far back as she can remember, she has always loved writing. Even in school, she loved doing homework, essays and composition assignments. Writing has always been a great pleasure to her. At the age of 19 or 20 Willie realized that her ability to write was a gift from God. Willie was attending Barton College, in Wilson, NC (formerly Atlantic Christian College) studying to become a registered nurse. It was at that time God spoke to her to "write" for him. Willie recalls being very despondent at first. Nursing was the love of her life and all she had ever wanted to be. There was no way she would change her major from 'Nursing" to "English." Willie wrestled with God for months and pleaded with Him to change His mind. She did not want to become a writer. Nursing was in her blood and that was all she wanted out of life. She bargained with the Lord to allow her to write part-time. It appeared that God wanted her to become a full-time writer! That was out of the question! After several months of wrestling with God, Willie reluctantly gave in to the calling of God. Since then, Willie has written over 300 poems, several plays and study guides of the Bible and continues to write today. The rest is history! Willie gives all the glory and honor to her Heavenly Father, who insisted over 20 years ago that she "write" for Him!
