About the Book

I chose the title Autumn Farewell as both of my sons died in October within a year from each other. Autumn was their favorite time of the year. This is an account of what took place in their lives starting with the gay issue, on through their illness and consequent death.

Soon after my sons' deaths from AIDS, I needed to write as a form of release from the chaos I experienced confronting their illness, death, and lack of compassion among family members and friends as well as a threat of murder that arose while I was dealing with the oncoming death of my second son. I have written a 325-page manuscript that deals with these issues, and chronicles the unconditional love that we shared to the last breath that inspires the narrative.

My reason for making my story public is that my experiences might help someone, not only with the disease of gay loved ones, but also with problems that occur anytime in a relationship and in our lives, plus other unnerving situations.

About the Author

Since my sons' deaths I have dedicated my life to fighting AIDS and giving gay issues presentations. I began by giving the closing speech for the AIDS Memorial quilt in Kansas City, Missouri on December 2, 1990 -- six weeks after my second son's death.

I have been featured on PBS-TV, KMBC-ABC-TV, Cablevision KCCP, and also on KCMO and EKET radio talk shows in Kansas City, Missouri. For a year and a half I co-hosted a weekly two-hour radio program in Douglas, Arizona.

I was one of 750 community leaders across the nation invited to participate in an AIDS congress in Washington, D.C. -- Breaking Barriers Building Bridges. Our story was featured in Woman's World woman's weekly magazine, July 16, 1991. I talk to groups in public schools, colleges, professionals, and participate in national forums on the family -- not only in the USA but also Sonora, Mexico.
