Binding Up the Past and Loosing the Future

God said to me once in prayer: Your life is like a house and Satan is like the elements beating against the house, seeking a way inside. You think that you have safely kept the elements out, but you fail to notice that your house is either missing a window, an entire wall or even the roof. So here you are sitting in your house wet and cold or hot with a high utility bill, because all of the energy, which is being spent to cool or warm your home, is flowing right out through the openings of the house.

Yet, you continue to turn up the air conditioning or heating in an effort to keep your home livable, but nothing seems to work.

So, you become confused, angry and frustrated. Finally you just feel like giving up, because you just don t understand, no matter how hard or what you try, why you can t make your house more livable. Yet, all the time, your house is either missing a window, a wall, or the entire roof. Many of us think that we have successfully barricaded the enemy out of our lives. Nevertheless, our lives continue to be a mess. We continue to have to contend with the same old problems: sexual problems, family problems, addictions, physical problems, emotional problems and many more. We try our best to get rid of these problems, but nothing seems to work. So, we become frustrated, confused and angry, and began to feel hopeless about our lives ever becoming any better.

Yet all the time, Satan and his evil empire are wreaking havoc in our lives, behind the scenes. That is why nothing seems to get any better in our lives and we wonder what in the world is going on, but Satan is what in the world is going on. Why? Because, we simply don t see him. For we are fighting against an unseen enemy (Ephesians 6).

However, God has given us some means to defend our lives against Satan. One of these means is the prayer of binding and loosing things in the name of Jesus.

God has given us, the born-again believers in Christ, the prayer of authority to bind Satan out of our lives, forever. The Lord said in Matthew 16:19, I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

The keys of the kingdom are the authority and power that God has invested in us through the Holy Spirit. This authority is our right, as heirs of the kingdom of God (Galatians 3:29), to use the name of Jesus Christ, because in the name of Jesus rests all the power of the universe (Matthew 28:18) to shut out anything that will hinder us from being the best witnesses of Christ we can be, and allow us access to all of the promises of God to flood our lives. This is good news!
