For several days the sound of gunfire reached a nearby Mormon ranch, but no Mormons came to help. When the ammunition was almost gone, a troop of armed horsemen appeared with a white flag! Mormons had come to the rescue! A Mormon delegate talked to the besieged and returned to the waiting troops. Another Mormon, John D. Lee, left the troops and brought two wagons to the circle. He explained that the Indians, who were friends of the Mormons, would permit the party to leave under Mormon protection if non-Mormons relinquished their firearms as a guarantee of good will. The non-mormons placed their weapons, small children, and wounded in Lee's wagons. The women and older children formed a group and trudged out of the camp. The men followed in another group, and the two wagons lurched behind. A fully armed Mormon guard escorted each group. Slowly the people trudged from the scene of sorrow toward Cedar City miles away. Suddenly a Mormon shouted a command, Men, do your duty! Non-Mormons gaped as the guards turned their guns upon them and fired! Indians screeching blood-thirsty war-cries rushed from concealment with upraised tomahawks! A year old toddler, blood spurting from a wounded arm, wailed in pain. A teenage girl knelt before a young Mormon, arms around his knees, tearful face upturned, begging. He hesitated; his father shot her. A weeping five year old boy whose father, brothers, and sisters were dead tugged hysterically at arrows sticking in his mother's back. After the killings the bodies were dumped out of the wagons, and Indians examined each one. Those still alive were shot in the head. The assassins stripped the corpses of clothing and valuables and left approximately one hundred and twenty cadavers to rot. The Mormon leaders harangued their men commanding eternal silence. No one could speak of the massacre to his wife or closest friend upon penalty of death. Seventeen small children too young to testify, their clothing soaked with the blood of murdered relatives, were taken to a Mormon house and herded into a crowded room where they screamed all night in terror. Later they were parceled out to Mormon families.

Besides many years spent searching libraries, rare newspapers, and bookstores, gathering facts for writing this book, he has done research on many Bible subjects. Since the Holy Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek, he often referred to the original texts to find exact meanings. A graduate of U.C.L.A., his business expertise has been consulting as a mathematical analyst in the mechanical engineering field, including extensive work with space tape recorders.
