After breakfast, I gathered my instincts and decided to head for home. The wind was starting to blow and with it came lots of rain. The Hurricane was here! The wind was howling and trees shook and cracked loudly as they fell all around me. The river started to rise, and the ground became a muddy swamp. By that afternoon I was soaked to the bone.

She has been a member of > our family ever since. > After a mandatory evacuation order, our family left for Hurricane > Gustav. Nikki ran off when we stopped on the outskirts of Kentwood, LA, > it was September 1, 2008. She was left behind with great sadness and we > never expected to see her again. We hoped that she would find a new home > in the country community. > Amazingly, Nikki returned home on Christmas Day, almost 4 months and > approximately 85 miles later. Many times after her return we sat > watching Nikki, trying to imagine what she had been through, and where > she had been.
