Mavis and Milly and Molly and Tilly fell in love with the third kitten born as did Abby who knew from experience that the last baby born to a litter was often times the runt, or much smaller than all the rest of the brothers and sisters. Such was not the case with the last kitten born to Mother Cat. He was much bigger than Rusty and Dusty, and instead of being the colors of the earth like his brothers, he was absolutely beautifully bovine with all of his black and white spots! Spots exactly like Mavis the milk cow and her sisters Milly and Molly and Tilly. Even his tiny tail thrashed about shooing away pesky flies who also loved it in the Barnaby barn……Several new days dawned, and as it sometimes happens on the farm, Mother Cat showed no interest in chasing all three kittens to feed them at dinner time. After all, the first two brothers were easy to care for and feed. They didn't squirm around while it was time to sleep or try to wriggle away when mother cat bathed them. They never left the barn without permission, meowed gratefully when dinner was served, and ate only the milk that mother cat offered them. Unlike his brothers , Moo squirmed while sleeping, putting all four of his paws in Mother Cat's face, wriggled everywhere during his bath and followed Mavis and Milly and Molly and Tilly all over the farm without permission. He did all of these, including slurping his dinner noisily as he made a clumsy kitten attempt at swimming in the pail of fresh milk he discovered by the barn door.

About the Author
Jan Puderbaugh is a retired Independence, Missouri First Grade elementary school teacher of 30 years. After retirement, Mrs. Puderbaugh continued teaching in the community colleges in the area. During her career she received several distinguished teaching awards including Teacher of the Year and her inclusion in Who's Who in American Teachers. Jan delights in her growing family including five grandchildren who provide many of the situations in her stories. These stories are timeless and involve characters and situations to which children of all ages relate easily.
