Has anybody ever heard of Amedeo Obici? He was born in 1876 in the small town of Oderzo near Venice, Italy. Obici would read letters from his uncle who was living in America which sparked an interest in Obici to someday also live in America himself. At age 11, though unable to speak any English, Obici’s dream came true. In 1887 Obici came to America and started a new life. He started in Scranton, Pennsylvania as a bellhop, and fruit stand vender. After moving to Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, he opened his own fruit stand and invested in a peanut roaster. In a few years, Obici started using a horse and wagon to peddle his peanuts and called himself “The Peanut Specialist”. In 1906 Obici went into partnership with Mario Peruzzi. So with 6 employees, 2 large roasters, and crude machinery, Planters Peanuts was founded. Let’s look at a few more fact about the “Peanut Specialist”, shall we?
