Stacy shook her head and responded “And then on top of that Rodney, you knew I answered that phone the night you called my roommate, that’s why you hung up so quickly”. Rodney looked and said, “Baby me and Angie are just good friends. I mean she been down for me ever since yay high, she was even there when my uncle got killed. I didn’t know she was your roommate until she told me after the night you told me you were pregnant. Baby, Angie and I never had sexual dealings; it was always just a brother and sister love”. Stacy looked back at the TV and started thinking to herself. She really did want to let Rodney back in her life because she didn’t feel loved at all right now, plus she knew Rodney would help her financially with their child. Her ego wouldn’t let her though. She refused to let somebody back in her life who bailed out on her and left her emotions stranded on the side of the road. She started thinking about her mother and father and how they did her. Stacy finally responded, “Rodney I’m sorry, I’m not gone stop you from seeing your child but me and you will never be again”. Rodney nodded his head like he was thinking of something to say. The room was quiet and he finally said “Stacy you can’t let me go, hell I was your first and I’ll be damned if you leave me”. Stacy snapped quickly “hell you left me hanging for six damn months”. Rodney put baby Rolan down and he walk towards the door. He stopped right before opening the door, turned around and pulled his shirt up to show his gun on his waste and said, “Like I said before, I’m your first and I’m gone be your last. I’ll kill you before I let you leave me”.

The struggle and pain of Stacy and Rodney had growing up made it difficult to raise Rolan. The streets of Chicago are a beast, and the only beauty of it is surviving and staying strong.
