Jonathan DuBose Sr is a modest man who knows quite a lot. As he enjoys three score and ten, his wisdom can be distilled into a brief but revealing message. “Heaven and hell are within us. We make them. We own them. They can ruin us or bring us through. Brother DuBose prefers that latter. As he says, you might as well enjoy both of them.” Many great quartet singers fell by the wayside. Unsustainable by that kind of confidence. But Brother DuBose is a wily survivor.
And his confidence endures in his children. Jonathan, Annè and Kenneth, he is one of the last, loyal exponents of the great quartet tradition of the fifties and sixties. The Sensational Starlight’s were the kind of local act who could outperform most today’s so-called stars. On Youtube there’s a clip of them singing “It’s Real”. Usually performed as a slow hymn. The Starlight’s came up with a daring, up tempo version. Notable for interplay between the lead singer and background. in which brother DuBose sings a powerful first tenor, with the light, keening quality of his idol brother Jojo Wallace of The Sensational Nightingales.
When he takes a lead himself – You can see him performing “Steal Away” with the Living Word Chorale. The modern version of the famous Wings of Jordan – He is, as you would expect, a sly singer. He’ll read one line straight, and then veer off in a way that surprises everyone, possibly included himself! He has traveled from Bridgeport to Harlem, simply to visit the great Claude Jeter in his last sad years in a nursing home. To paraphrase an old song, DuBose remembers when others forget. DuBose’s children have inherited their dads ears. His showmanship, His smile, May the years endow them with his wisdom.

About the Author
Anne` DuBois was born Patricia Anne DuBose on Nov 3,1961. Her professional life was established by working in corporate America as a broker’s assistant, prospector’s representative and back office cashier with Fortune 500 conglomerates such as Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb, Prudential Bache Securities and E.F.Hutton, Inc. till 1986. She is the founder and CEO of AEO Consortium, an online broadcasting communications enterprise officially established since 2003. Literary accomplishments from 1998- 2003 readings with The Fairfield Area Poets Society at the Westport Barnes and Noble in CT. In 2000, honored to be featured in "America at the Millennium: The Best Poems and Poets of the 20th Century" work entitled “To Be or Not To Be”. In addition an audio performance of this same poetic work was recorded on CD, Artist Jonathan DuBose jr, Title of the recorded work - Expect The Unexpected.In 2010 DuBois authored 70 and Beyond: The Evolution of Quartet Music.
