About the Book

I migrated to Johannesburg in South Africa from London when I was twenty-one years old. The air was sultry, and the smell of Africa hit my nostrils with a twang. I was not expecting it to be so soon. The sights and sounds of Africa have influenced my life and art since then. A great love of the African savanna lay in my bosom from that moment. Many days later, when my sister and I had collected ourselves, we wandered out to greet the African people in the town. The one thing that would prove to us that we were in Africa were the sweet-spoken natives. They were kind and very helpful through all my years there. Strangely, we would later find that the change in seasons did not occur—that was something to adjust to, which I never did.

About the Author

It has been an incredible journey through my Art and life and I wanted to share this story. As the narrative unfolds my intense emotion to write became more apparent. I was born in 1941 at Bushy Stanmore, Middx, UK. I worked as a typist in an Import & Export Firm in London and my name was Griffiths. I subsequently married several times. Unfulfilled as a typist I joined the RAMC and served for 2yrs.

On leaving I went to S.Africa with my sister Betty and she carried on Nursing and I went forward as a Secretary in the Johannesburg Hospital and worked for six years, happy there but still not satisfied. After my husband passed away I brought my children back to England, and pursued my interest of Art beginning at the local North Hertfordshire College. As a mature student they offered pupils a part time Art course over several years as Bachelor of Technology in Art & Design which I took in June 1994. Human Space is surrounded by different atmospheres through form, light and texture the body in collaboration within our space. Drawing and painting forms in our natural space is infinite. The awareness of our design within the universe compelled me to look at Earth clays and the dynamic wholeness of our molecular structure of our building blocks. It was then that my art began to involve Earth, water, air and fire.
