About the Book

“Nighty night. Sleep tight. Don’t let the shelter fleas bite.” Shelter Cats: Edwena’s Home follows Edwena’s wish to go from un-cat-isfactory conditions to a purr-fect home for life. Moving in and out of homes and shelters all too often has caused Edwena to lose hope for herself. Throughout her life’s twists and turns, Edwena comes to find out that not everyone can be trusted, but she learns just how brave and strong a cat can really be. With the help of a few friends in the form of a group of house mice and a squawking parrot, she takes readers on a journey of excitement, sadness, danger, and uncertainty, as she figures out just what she is made of. Through it all, Edwena wonders if she will ever find her place in this world to call home.

About the Author

Ten-year-old Julia Grunwell is a kitten fanatic! When she is not writing stories about cats, she is finding her inspiration by visiting her local cat rescue shelter. As soon as Julia began spending time with the cats and kittens at the shelter, she realized that no two cats were alike. All of her main characters in this story are based on real cats that Julia met at the shelter. Every feline brings its own experiences, background, and personality to influence Julia's writing. Julia sees a lot of herself in Edwena, but each cat she has met has its own riveting story just scratching to be told. Julia lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her parents and her two older sisters, Caroline and Elizabeth. Her favorite authors include J.K. Rowling and Ridley Pearson. She loves to draw, read, and travel with her family. Obviously, an animal lover, Julia also loves meeting new dogs, bunnies, and horses, although surprisingly, she has yet to be allowed to get a pet of her own. Julia is determined to change this in the future.
