About the Book

Thunderstorms are erupting inside Rosalie’s brain. When she is six years old, Rosalie has her first seizure and learns she has epilepsy. As she grows older, she tries to navigate a world made more difficult by her disability. Though sometimes it’s scary, she never gives up. With the help of her family and her seizure response dog, Rolex, Rosalie learns that she can help others and achieve her dreams. The topic of disability is underrepresented in children’s literature, epilepsy even more so. With colorful, evocative illustrations, this book is perfect for those who want to teach children about epilepsy, disability, service dogs, or empathy. At times happy, at times sad, but always triumphant, Rosalie’s true story is a tribute to how the power of love can help us all overcome the obstacles of life.

About the Author

Rosalie Brown is twenty-six, and has had epilepsy since she was six years old. She struggled unsuccessfully to control it for many years, until she received her Canine Assistants service dog, Rolex, in 2014. Rosalie has had a life-long love of literature, and after receiving Rolex, was able to work as a library clerk for four years. After having to put her education on hold, Rosalie was finally able to go back to school in 2017. She is earning her BA in Library Science from the University of Nebraska Omaha, and will graduate in 2019. She is an avid baker, reader, and has made it her mission to spread awareness about epilepsy, disabilities, and service dogs.
