About the Book

Some readers may ask, why is a book of poems called a book of lyrics and songs, or vice versa? This may be because the word, poem, can be misused, and may be the most misused word in the English language, and leads one to be very cautious about using it. More recently the word poem, seems to have included pretty well any thing. What makes a good poem, who really knows? But it does seem have to be a little more than well-written prose. The Oxford dictionary describes a poem, as a piece of imaginative writing in verse and poetry as a quality of beauty or emotional power, poetry and fire, balanced in music. At what stage do songs and lyrics become poetry is not very clear but the connection is clearly very close.

About the Author

I started to write lyrics , songs and poems when I was in my teens, when I felt very close to who I was or thought I was and life seemed very simple . I was very focused on sports and hopeless at English ,and math’s and felt a little out of sync . But some how managed to get an English A level . I am not sure why I started to try and write poetry but I felt it was a creative way to explore one self. The first one was published when I was at school, in the school magazine . Then a little later was selected for a small publication . Two lyrics the Age Youth has Fed on , and a version of Fish and Chip Alley when I was in my late teens .Later on I felt who I was slipping away and I wanted to keep a record in case I forgot who I was . I have always been conscious of the fact that reading a book of poems , unlike a novel can be either a rather intense or a sterile experience, with nothing in between how ever good they may be . By firstly adding the concept lyrics or songs it lightens the process and opens up the experience . To work with art and music so that these can draw on each other’s skills and inspiration to bring songs , lyrics and poetry more visually alive .
