It is a beautiful summer day with a gentle cool breeze rustling my friends and me around. Breezy days are the most fun because my friends and I love tickling each other and having a jolly time. My name is Sammy and I am a beautiful, humongous green leaf. I enjoy hanging out on my tree where I can watch all the squirrels scrambling to get bread from the lady who throws it out on the back deck. I also watch Jack, the little boy who lives in the house, play on his slide and play ball with his mommy and daddy. I especially like to listen to him squeal with delight while he is playing. Life could not get any better. “Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!” I screamed as I woke up today and realized I’m not green anymore. My beautiful green leaf body is now bright red and yellow. I quickly look around and realize that all my leaf friends have changed colors. Being green was wonderful but as a carefully look around at my tree and the other trees in the yard I realize how beautiful all the vibrant colors look. It is interesting to all be different instead of the same. How exciting it feels to be so bright and cheerful!

About the Book
“The Fall of a Lifetime” is a unique and heartwarming story written from the perspective of a leaf during fall. During his transformation, Sammy the leaf realizes not all changes are bad and makes an unlikely friend whom he grows to love and adore. The friends share adventures and have tons of fun during the season, making it the fall of both of their lifetimes.
About the Author
Vicki McKiernan was born and raised in the Reading, Pennsylvania area and moved to New Jersey when she met the love of her life about seventeen years ago. She got married in 2001 and had her adorable and loving son in 2010. This story is about him and the joy she has experienced through his eyes. Vicki is currently a third-grade teacher in an inner-city school district in New Jersey. She has been working in the same school since 2000 and has taught various grade levels from first grade to eighth grade before settling in third grade.
