About the Book

“Flames of My Truth” is the true story of Janet Douglas, Lady Glamis, and her second husband, Archibald Campbell, Keeper of Skipness. They were star-crossed lovers in arranged, loveless marriages, until Lord Glamis died and Lady Campbell divorced to marry a lover. Janet and Archibald were wed at last only to fall victim to King James’s revenge against the Douglases. Janet was a woman of extraordinary beauty, the stalwart granddaughter of Archibald Douglas, powerful nobleman known as Bell the Cat, Earl Angus. Archibald Campbell was the brother of Colin Campbell, Earl Argyll, a man of core values, lieutenant of the King’s Third Army. A story of true love destroyed by revenge and betrayal. In the end, the couple faced a decision, to expose the true heir to the crown, put Scotland in political peril, or accept their own martyrdom, keeping silent. Lady Glamis was executed for crimes she did not commit. Archibald Campbell’s trial was cancelled; he was murdered by Maclean in a rage of Highland revenge.

About the Author

The initial three volume series known as the “Douglas Trilogy” was developed through extensive research. The author spent nearly four years traveling through Scotland and England to find every historical site referenced in her book, contacting the National Archives of both Scotland and England for original documents and studying at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh utilizing her two year Readers Pass as well as the medieval library at Harvard University by special invitation. She is a lifetime member of Clan Douglas Society of North America and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries Scotland. Deborah Foulkes’s credentials for historical research served to compliment her other passion, her belief in Spiritualism. A Certified Medium in the Spiritualist Church and an ordained minister, Rev Deborah Richmond Foulkes, DDiv, has combined her skills at Spirit Communication with her academic acumen to write a treatise on her breakthrough discovery, proving reincarnation through mediumship. Her fifth book, “Right of Passage: What the Dead Say about Reincarnation,” is the culmination of all her research, academic and Spiritual. The chapters take the reader through the several lives of many great Douglas leaders, detailing both prior and subsequent lives through Mediumship validated by historical evidence, proving that the soul remains constant lifetime over lifetime, with the same personality in each incarnation. In this sixth book, “Flames of My Truth,” author Deborah Richmond Foulkes explores the lifetime of Janet Douglas, Lady Glamis. Extensive research went into this true story of patriotism and martyrdom in 16th c. Scotland. As with all her book formats, this exciting narrative takes the reader behind the scenes; using images of the actual places described in the narrative. Information from Spirit, through communication with some of the actual participants in the story, documented through academic research, including authentic records in the National Archives of Scotland and England is the basis of the story. “Flames of My Truth” will embrace the reader with passion as each page of this true tale provides the audience with a knowing, a sense of being there in those ancient times. Enhanced with the backdrop of medieval castles, magical Lowland moors and beguiling glens and lochs that define the Scottish Highlands and Western Isles, “Flames of My Truth” is Scotland. The dramatic story begins with the ambitions of bloodthirsty Stewart King focused on revenge. “Flames of My Truth” presents the true historical account of the tragic life of Janet Douglas, Lady Glamis. It is also about human courage; a passionate love affair destroyed by political intrigue and heartbreaking betrayal. This is the ‘Tragic Execution of Janet Douglas’; Lady Glamis and her loyal, beloved husband suffered greatly for Scotland, they became martyrs to their country’s freedom. Saor Alba!
