About the Author

About the Author Maria Boundas Bakalis, Ed.D, brings her passion for theatre and her dedication to learning both on the stage and in the classroom. Her experience as an actor, playwright, and theatre director together with her commitment to learning are highlighted in her imaginative and creative approaches to teaching the oral arts. Dr. Bakalis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education/Speech and Theatre, Master of Arts in Communication and Theatre, and a Doctorate in Education, and certificates in acting from London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the Athens Centre. Dr. Bakalis has performed both in the United States and in Europe. She is coauthor of the communications text, Who Do You Think You Are? Interpersonal Interactions, and has written, directed, and produced plays for both adults and children. Presently, she is artistic director of the Curtain Up Players in Glen Ellyn, IL. She is now playing her greatest acting role as grandmother to two amazing and amusing grandchildren, Lillian and Alexander. About the Illustrator Lillian Bakalis Feinberg is the muse who inspired the author. Lillian, the book’s illustrator, is eight years old and a student in the second grade. Lillian loves to draw, sing, act, and read. She dreams of becoming an author, illustrator, or a doctor. Lillian hopes to inspire other children to experience the wonders of reading.
