About the Book

‘I’ve given my life to let the world know the truth. But do they care? Do they really want to know?’ Olga is an international photojournalist, determined to bring the reality of war to an unaware audience. But when tragedy strikes on an assignment in Beirut she is forced to question the true value of her work and the real cost of human life. This haunting and powerful screenplay, from award winning writer Haas Mroue, beautifully weaves the personal and the global to show how war touches us all. Published here for the first time and based on his real life experience of growing up during the Lebanese Civil War, Haas’s screenplay is still just as pertinent now as when it was written. The wars still continue even if the names have changed.

About the Author

Haas Mroue was born and raised in Beirut. He fled the war with his mother in 1975 and lived in several countries before he laid his roots in the United States of America. Haas graduated from the University of California–Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Theater, Film and Television and completed the master’s programme from the University of Colorado Boulder. For the last ten years of his life he was living and writing in Port Townsend, an idyllic city in Jefferson County in Washington. His stories and poems appeared in a wide variety of journals and periodicals. His books include Eight Short Stories and the acclaimed collection of poems Beirut Seizures. A Photojournalist, Kabul to Beirut was written shortly before Haas died suddenly of a heart attack while on a visit to Beirut. Though written as a screenplay it flows beautifully on the page.
