"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth" Among so many, a woman patient, after a comprehensive history and lab, Ultrasound, CT Scan, and Cancer markers, revealed that together with this journey with her we found out a very conclusive evidence that she does have cancer. With very heavy hearts we accepted, we shall cope, and we will do what we're supposed to do. We started with referrals on education on cancer patho-physiology ( causes and evolution), progression and spread (metastasis), principles of treatments, its rationale, the treatments itself and options, community support, referrals to local oncologists (cancer specialists) and cancer centers in Texas, UCLA, MT. Sinai, and other highly refutable ones, with possible exception of Sloan-Kettering where they give their referring colleague a run-around and then put them on file and forgotten! And the all too familiar plea: Doctor, is there anything else we can do other than what we are doing on my cancer!! My cancer, WILDFIRE !!

About the Author

Dr. Serina is an active solo practicing medical doctor of 26 years in Long Beach, CA, now pro bono and engaged in self-financed medical missions. He graduated and had Anesthesiology residency in Far Eastern University in Manila, had Psychiatric residency in Southwestern State, Virginia. and in Cherry Hospital, North Carolina; and was Board Qualified in Emergency Medicine. He had Postgraduate in Allergy and Immunology, Aerospace Medicine and Battlefield Medicine in Lackland, USAF, Texas, and he exited his tour of duty as Lt. Col. USAF MC. proceeding to private Family Practice. He held medical licenses in the Philippines, Nepal, West Virginia where he practised for five years, and here in California. He held Medical Directorships in Emergency Dept. Raleigh General Hospital, WVa., Subacute-Neuro Unit, Pacific Hospital and Cater Manor Hospital, LB, CA. Dr. Serina had been a member of the CA Medical Association, LA County Medical Association, Long Beach Medical Society, CA Medical Directors' Association, Military Surgeons of the United States, and the Association of International Physicians. He successfully solo climbed (with one guide and one porter) MT Everest at 68, in 2008, ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, skydived at 71, still going on his 7th full marathon in October, 2013. He writes articles and as featured speaker in medicine, as well as preventative and public safety concerns and often controversial historical and current events, local and abroad, but non-syndicated.
