Is Everyone Rebellious?
Yes, we were all born with a sinful nature.
Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. (Psalm 51:5)
Yes, we are all like sheep and have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6)
When we look at the rainbow we see God as an unchanging God. He is holy, He is a God of justice and cannot go against His character, or His promises. He is involved with us as a whole-wide world and as individuals. If we call on Him, He hears and answers us. His love wants the very best for us.
However, humankind is not able to give us this great gift. People will always disappoint along the way, causing hurt and pain, for whatever reason – sometimes unintentional, sometimes through a lack of thoughtfulness. On the contrary, God is faithful – He will not let us down. He is our only hope and our security.
Micah 7:5-7 says,
Do not trust a neighbor
Put no confidence in a friend,
Even with her who lies in your embrace be careful of your words
For a son dishonors his father
A daughter rises up against her mother
A daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law
A man’s enemies are the members of his own household
But for me, I watch in hope for the Lord
I wait for God my Savior
My God will hear me.
Rebellion of Humankind
Rebellion started in Genesis, in the Garden of Eden. We hear the saying, If it feels good then it must be right. When God said, “Do not touch the tree with the fruit on it.” I’m sure Adam and Eve thought, “It looks good, how could anything be wrong with this? I want to do this – I’ll be okay – no harm will come to me.” Whether it looks good or not, God said, “No.” I believe this was a test of obedience.
Man is rebellious, wanting to do his own thing, and in so doing does what feels good to him. Our world, globally, is suffering and heading for destruction. Greed, selfishness, unbelief in God, immorality and taking prayer out of schools are some of the things that are destroying home and families. When things go wrong people ask, “How could God let this happen?” However, when looking at things realistically, God is not to be used for our convenience but looks for a relationship with us. Many people don’t know how to have a relationship. It starts with a desire to learn how to have a relationship and to gain confidence in God. As we seek to know God and to have a relationship with Him, we learn how we can better our relationship with others; and we get to know the personality and character of Christ. The Holy Spirit reveals to us the truth as it is written in the Word of God – the Holy Bible.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end there is death. (Proverbs 14:12)
Rebellion is in the heart of the individual who lives by “my will” instead of God’s will for my life.
Am I trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If you are trying to please men you cannot be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)
