YOUNG FEMALE: What’s that? FEMALE: What? YOUNG FEMALE: Listen. VP sings loudly and gathers as the ceremony starts. YOUNG FEMALE: Were just in time. FEMALE: Just in time for what? YOUNG FEMALE: Look Lights are up bright, VP is celebrating with Mother LULU and her new born as she dedicates her child. FEMALE and YOUNG FEMALE disappear of to the side of the stage. VILLAGE LEADER: Your Daughter is now dedicated in the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Sprit. LULU raises child in air, VP make a great noise. YOUNG FEMALE AND FEMALE: This is a story of a child named Ada. V P stop what their doing and looks at Mother LULU, who is centre stage with baby and whispers… V P: Ada LULU Rocks baby and starts to hum the same African song the villager’s first sung on their entrance, but this time slowly. Villagers take belongings off stage where a spotlight is now on LULU and baby in an iconic image of a Mother and Daughter. LULU: My Baby, My child, I love you greatly and you are special. Did you know that you are a great Princess and one day yo… Voices of angry and violent men are heard. LULU starts to pray. LULU: They’re here, they’re here (starts to panic, calls the villagers). They’re here, they’re here. LULU starts to sing a song named ‘We must protect’, joined in by the villagers. Whilst V P enters with sticks and weapons ready for war, one male villager steps out. MALE V: It’s been ten years, ten years since the war started. We thought it was finished, we made peace with them. But they’re back, they’ve come back to hurt us, take our gold, our wives, our children… our land. What have we done? Nothing. All we want is… LULU: They’re here. V LEADER: It is time. For years we have been silent, treated like dirt, mud on our shoes, spit. We tried peace, but they don’t want it. So it is time, no more, it is time we fight. Fight for what’s ours. V P: Yeah. All V P run off stage with a sprit of anger and fight. LULU is left on stage and takes time to look at her baby. She is torn, but has to do the right thing, to keep her child safe; she places the child in the corner on the floor and covers the baby with a cloth from her waist. LULU: I will be back... (She kisses her baby) sssshhhh. (Starts to hum the African song)
