About the Book

Join me as I explore why we build things, and how I got into building experimental aircraft. See the trial and tribulation that go alone with not only building but flying these aircraft. Hopefully you will discover that you can do it too.

About the Author

George Orndorff Bio George was born and grew up on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. His first job out of high school was collecting coin phones in Washington DC. He progressed through the phone company doing most every job they had. He left the phone company to work for the Army as a civilian in Frederick, MD doing computer networking. George and Becki met and married while working for the Army, discovering their joint love of flying, crafting and seeing how stuff worked and was put together. When George professed his desire to build an airplane, Becki had visions of lawn chairs and lawn mower engines, though was pleasantly surprised to see Van’s Aircraft designs. Shortly they ordered an RV-6A empennage and the adventure began. In those early days of building RVs, items beyond those supplied in the kits, detailed instruction as well as suitable tools were only found by word of mouth. In networking with other builders, George and Becki saw the need for the instructional videos they produced and a hobby got out of hand as they got more and more phone calls for assistance. In 1996, they took a leap of faith and moved to Texas to open a aircraft builder assistance center near Fort Worth. This business thrived and as most small business owners know, there were not enough hours in a day. This is an enjoyable and satisfying business, helping people do something they want to do, not have to do. In 2006, they moved back to the East Coast to be closer to family that is scattered from Maryland to Florida. North Carolina is a perfect location with fantastic people that have made them feel at home and great weather (most of the time) for flying and just plain old living.
