About the Author

Co-Author/Editor Peggy Stephens is the only individual in the country serving in the combined role of Superintendent, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of a state psychiatric hospital. She performed with the Louisville Orchestra before attending medical school at the University of Kentucky. Following her medical and psychiatric training, she joined the faculty at Harvard University. Dr. Stephens is a Distinguished Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association and maintains three Specialty Board Certifications. She is a past President of the Kentucky Medical Psychiatric Association. Mental Health America of Indiana awarded her the 2008 Individual Psychiatrist “Heroes in the Fight Award”. Dr. Stephens also serves as a Joint Commission hospital surveyor. She is a member of the University of Louisville’s Athletic Hall of Fame. She helps coach her nephew’s southern Indiana’s all-star basketball team and plays competitive racquetball throughout the country. Leisure time is spent writing and enjoying time with family and friends. Co-Author/Editor Theresa (Schneider) Robinson received a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University where she double-majored in Psychology and English. Later at the university, she completed a Master of Arts degree in Community and Industrial Counseling. After working 4 years in private hospitals, she has been employed at Madison State Hospital in the Social Services Department for the past 18 years, and she is currently the Social Services Director and MI Service Line Manager. She shares a familial work history with her maternal great- aunt, Alice Murphy, a retired school teacher, who began working at the state hospital as a nursing attendant in the late 1920’s. The youngest of five children, Theresa was born in Chicago, IL, but has considered the Madison area her home for the past 41 years. She enjoys flower gardening, history, travel, and photography while residing in Madison with her husband, Rob, and their 5 cats
