CHAPTER 1
I woke up in my black canopy bed getting up fixing my emo red haircut. I put a black Widow clip in my hair, opened my dresser, and grabbed my black ripped skirt, leather finger gloves and red corset. I slip on my black high heeled leather boots and put on red lipstick. I get up and walk downstairs of my three story mansion my room being on the top floor and all mine. I didn’t have a door just the grand staircase leading down to the second floor. The second floor was where my little sister Debbie slept along with my parents. The first floor was a large living room in the front with eloquent seating and antiques everywhere. Then towards the back was the kitchen which also held the door to the basement. We had a full two acres to ourselves in the back we had a mini forest that is always attended to so I wouldn’t get trapped in spider webs. I grab my bag from the coat closet next to the door and walk out to my baby. He was gorgeous everything a girl could want black, shiny, color Porsche that I named Zulkin. I got in and drove to my school in New Berns, North Carolina. I got out and started grabbing my stuff when someone slams into me and we both go flying inside my car “Ow, you better not have messed up my car you moron!” I yell “Your car’s fine I didn’t touch it, how about you are you okay not that you care about if anyone else is hurt.” The guy said clearly annoyed “I only care when the moron that got hurt was by accident and doesn’t ram me into my car” I say rolling my eyes. “Dang am I bleeding?” I sigh and move his black hair to better see where he was pointing. “No blood but your ear is red from impact. I would be careful with your earring, it almost fell out” I say tightening his diamond stud earring. “Ow thanks” he said moving his hair back and facing me. It was Vince, my jaw set tight and I rolled my eyes “Alright out already” I say lifting myself off my stuff “Sorry” he muttered “Yeah whatever” I say sliding out of my car grabbing my stuff and closing my car door. I take one step and the front of my skirt rips all the way down. I grab the fabric and shove it in my Jack bag. Towards the end of algebra I rolled my eyes and got my stuff and walked out ten minutes before the bell. Mr. Moe, the teacher, called after me once as the door closed behind me. I opened my locker and threw my books in and grabbed my keys and bag leaving the fabric inside. “Nice tantrum in there” Vince says smiling at me “Buzz off” I snap at him “Hey I was just trying to make you laugh. Are you skipping?” he asks watching where I was heading “What’s it to you? No one will miss me” I say flicking my gaze over at him. He wore his football jersey and faded jeans with the best sneakers around, “You can’t skip it’s against the rules” he said catching up to me “Oh yeah your right I should probably head back and actually give a damn about rules and Algebra. Bite me Williams, get off my back” I say walking away. Principle Rock stops me on my way to the door, I hold in the urge to roll my eyes “Where do you think you’re going?” I could sense Vince’s expectation for me to give attitude but he was wrong there. “I was getting something out of my car” I say sweetly. “Ah I see, Vince will you accompany her to her car and make sure she’s all right?” Rock said as I was already at the door. “Sure” Vince said following me. “Bernie!” I yell and a little old man in a maintenance uniform walked out “Yes, whatcha need darling?” he was old and small with white hair; he was the cutest old man I ever knew. “I’m skipping to go get our food early, you want The Usual?” I ask. The Usual is a little fast food restaurant “Yes but this time I’m paying you bought it last time, only fair dear” he said giving me a twenty. “Aw Bernie you know how I feel about me using your money”. “No please it’s only fair” he said smiling and limping away. I put his money away in my car in the middle compartment where all of the money he gave me was. “You buy him food?” Vince asked me. “Is that a problem to you? Just because I’m loaded and my entire family is a snob doesn’t mean I’m one” I replied after slamming my car door. As I turned it on the passenger side opened. Percy my gay best friend sat down, he was the whitest thing I had ever seen, with light brown always done to gay perfection hair. We didn’t mind each other. We accepted each other for who we were that being our common bond of friendship. “Hey room for one more? I’m in the mood for The Usual!” Vince called. “Sure Vince do you want to come?” I ask looking over at him. “Percy you better not ditch me for cheap food again!” yelled his boyfriend who spotted him in the car with me. “Hold up Mark. I hope you understand Chloe, rain check is due, when baby calls I must follow” “Don’t go all gushy on my now” Percy rolled his eyes then got out of the car and ran over to Mark. Vince took his place and we were off to The Usual. I got Bernie’s food after I finished eating mine. We drove back to campus and the silence was annoying the crap out of me. “Thanks, I owe you lunch” “You owe me nothing” I say getting out of the car and to the back of the school where Bernie was working. “Break time Bernie, take off Bernie, go back to the shed and just relax, everything is perfect I’ll deal with Principle Rock” he smiles at me and walks over to me taking my face in his old little hands and kisses my forehead. He grabs his food then heads inside the shed to eat. “Do you have any grandparents?” I heard Vince ask from behind me. “No I don’t, actually, well none that I know exist” Vince comes and sits on a little bench in the garden where Bernie was just working. “What do you plan to do with the money you have from Bernie?” “Birthday presents, and random gifts I give him during the year” I say walking over to the budded roses smelling them. “What are you doing hanging out with the freak chick?” I asked him. “Your interesting to me, I just kind of want to try to figure you out and know why you are the way you are” he answered. I turn to him as he stands up putting his hands in his pockets. “Too complex for you to ever try to find out on your own, or even with my help that won’t help” I hear the back door click open and I grab my bag and run to the front leaving Vince behind. Before last period ended I was called into Mr. Moe’s classroom. I waited for everyone in the class to leave then as I walk in I bump Samantha “Watch it freak” she snapped, “Ow be careful with your fake everything Barbie doll” I walk in rolling my eyes. “So Moe why am I here?” I look in Moe’s general direction and see Vince next to him. “You always skip class and it’s unacceptable, I will fail you and make you get a tutor if you don’t pass your test on Friday” he threatens but of course I heard this the whole year and he’s done nothing “Are you serious? I’m one of your best students, have you looked at my grades?” Moe sighed and rubbed his sweaty forehead. “You cannot miss another class unless, each time you skip, you get either detention for a month or you can be tutored for that day by Vince” he says flicking his thumb at Vince “Excuse me but this is ludicrous and quite frankly an empty threat, Vince put you up to this. I refuse to believe anything you’ve just said, and I will continue to do as I please” I say smiling “Just don’t fail anything and there won’t be any problems” he gave up “Oh there won’t be” I say glaring at them, turning and leaving, I walk out to my car opening it then I hear a crash from the shed. “Bernie!” I yell throwing my stuff in the car slamming the door and keys in hand I went running to the shed. I get in and see Bernie lying on the floor catching his breath and slowing his heart beat. “Are you okay?” I ask frantic “Yeah just fell backwards, help me up darling” I pull him to his feet and he jumps around and checks himself for anything broken. “Nothing serious dear” he said noticing my worried face, “Need me to walk you to your car?” I offer “I take the bus” he said shooing me
