Instead of doing math and reading, Daisy sometimes daydreamed about chasing rabbits. Her daydreams left her with no idea what Mrs. Bark was talking about when she was called on. If Daisy did pay attention she would often call answers out of turn, which got her in trouble. Jake and Daisy began learning things to help with each problem. Mr. Wagtail started with organization. “What’s organization?”, Daisy asked. “It just means that you keep things neat and know where you put stuff”, said Mr. Wagtail. “Do you know what a map is?”, he asked them. They both said, “yes, it tells you how to get somewhere”. "Well, imagine organization being a mountain you have to climb...we'll call it Mount Organized. Different maps help you get to the top. Your desk is one of those maps. To clean it, take everything out and make a garbage pile and a keep pile. Crinkled folders, bone wrappers and things you don't need go in the garbage pile. Books, homework papers and pencils go in the keep pile". Mr. Wagtail also showed them Hinge Paw and Brain Talk to help with interrupting. “Do you know what a door hinge is?”, he asked. Jake said, “It lets us open and close doors.” “Right! Imagine there is a hinge that attaches your paw with your mouth. As you raise your paw, your mouth closes. Watch!” Mr. Wagtail showed Jake and Daisy how it worked.

About the Book
Jake and Daisy are back for another year at Dogwood Elementary. All is going well until they run into problems paying attention in class, talking out of turn and misplacing important items like homework. But with the help of their school counselor, Mr. Wagtail, they learn some very creative ways to become more successful. Mr. Wagtail introduces Jake and Daisy to the idea of paying attention and teaches them about organization by climbing “Mount Organized”. Follow along with Jake and Daisy to see if they make it to the top or if they have to spend the year at Dogwood Elementary in trouble all the time. This story teaches self-help strategies for improving focus, organization and expressing feelings in an appropriate manner.
About the Author
Trent Bashline is an elementary school counselor for the Erie City School District in Erie, PA. Over the years, he has conducted many groups at Perry Elementary School helping students who have attention deficits. He has found that working with students to improve impulsiveness, organization, and inattention with a focus on helping students pay attention to their thoughts and feelings. are key elements in helping students to become successful. Trent lives in the suburbs of Erie, PA, with his wife, two children, and golden retriever, Daisy. It was Daisy who provided the inspiration for this book.
