About the Book

This book was written during and after my travel and studies in Eastern philosophy, where I lived and studied in an Ashram outside of New Delhi, India. I stayed awake one whole night watching the stars above which looked like you could reach out and touch them with your fingertips. I truly was "In The Valley of The Stars!" Thus the title of this book was born. The Eternal Flame represents the Eternal Light within each one of us. The Hubble pictures represent the Infinite Reality of God. I am grateful for both of my spiritual teachers for making this book possible. While in India my teacher read one of my letters I was sending home to my mother, and he wanted to have it published in the newspaper, but I wouldn't have it, so I hope this book makes up for it now.

The author, Dorothy Richardson Nelson (DEJA), has been living in Santa Barbara, California for approximately 20 years. She is a member of the Eastern Star, Marguerite Chapter No.78. Her mother, Miriam Richardson of Shreveport, La., studied to become a concert pianist in New York and was offered two movie contracts before marrying and raising her (2) children. She married Eldon Nelson of Boston,Ma., who had a beautiful voice, he played the violin by ear, so while Dorothy was growing up as a child, beautifull music as well as books on philosophy were everywhere! Two books were written about them. One was called "Seeds of the Nation”, by Miriam DuMars, and the other one was called "CADDO 1,000”, mentioning her grandfather, David Claude Richardson, who was one of the first oil men of the country as well as one of the first millionaires. Her grandmother was Caroline Meriwhether Richardson, who was related to Meriwhether Lewis of the Lewis &Clark Expedition. Her pioneer ancestors were in theAmerican Revolution, one among them being Richard Richardson who fought for American Independence from England. One member of her family, Captain John Smith, established and founded one of the first English colonies in Virginia. His mother Susan Smith knitted a dark blue coverlet with 13 large gold eagles on it representing the 13 original states of the Nation. This still exists today and is being kept as a family heirloom. Part of her family were in the Oklahoma Runand established one of the first banks and lumber yards in Oklahoma City. Her “Dolphins Eyes of the Sea” was published by the Nat'l Library of Poetry and was narrated by David Susskind. She grew up on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, Md., hence her love of the Sea, and in the Bethesda, Md., area before moving to Santa Barbara, Ca.
