My life has not been a piece of cake. I feel that I’ve experienced more in 24 years than most people do in a lifetime. “Awakened” is my journey from a California upper middle class princess, to an out of control rebellious teenager, to a desperate meth addict, fearless of the consequences of the dark drug world. “Awakened” is more than a dramatic tale, it is the story of a divine healing from drug addict to the person God planned for me to be.
The cover of my book is symbolic of the re-creation of me. The cupcake is that All-American girl - the person of substance with a solid foundation.
The cupcake wrapper is my family and friends who wrapped me in their love through all the conflicts and drama of my journey.
The frosting on the cupcake represents my personality - the crazy, goofy, loud girl, who loves to laugh and gives God the glory for every new day. I am often accused of being “over the top” in my enthusiasm and energy, just the same as the frosting.
The sprinkles on the cupcake are a reminder of how my life was shattered by drugs. At the lowest point of my drug addiction I felt as if my life had been shattered into a million pieces with no hope of ever putting it back together.
The candle represents the divine miracle I experienced in being healed from drug addiction. That inner glow that I experience each day I awaken unchained to drug addiction is one of the many miracles God has given me throughout this journey.
At the very top of the cupcake is the sparkler, which symbolizes God, the light of my world, who lights up my life every day. But God isn’t just a flickering light from a small birthday candle in my world. God sparks my life with wild, vibrant, noisy fireworks that explode into all areas of my life.
This is my story; a story of a lost soul, re-created to fulfill God’s plan. My hope is that as you read “Awakened” you will discover that God has a plan for everyone, and that he can heal you or someone you love, just the same as he has healed me.

About the Book
Erin Kalte grew up within a secure, loving family, and more material things than she needed. She was a talented dancer and a happy, fun-loving daughter, sister and friend. Erin’s normal teenage rebellion lead to dabbling in alcohol and drugs until she spiraled into a deadly addiction to methamphetamines.
Erin’s life flipped from living the American dream to navigating a nightmare of violence, crime and the loss of her family because of the dark world of drugs. After a failed suicide attempt, Erin was introduced to a God who loved her and accepted her with all her addiction flaws. As Erin explored this new relationship with God, she experienced a miracle of healing from her addiction.
How could the All-American girl with everything give it all up for drugs? How was Erin able to finally accept help and seek rehabilitation? What kind of miracle did Erin receive? And what does that mean for others who have addiction problems?
“Awakened” chronicles the life of a meth addict and the healing of addiction. It’s a personal revelation of a drug addict’s secrets and a first hand account of a physical and emotional healing. “Awakened” is a courageous personal journey of a young woman’s triumph over drug addiction.
About the Author
ERIN KALTE is an author, motivational speaker and marketing and public relations professional. She is a graduate of the International Academy of Design and Technology, and pursuing a career in the fashion industry. Erin lives in Northern California where she is a member of Bayside Church in Granite Bay.
