The shades of blue and brown combined with the beautiful, bright, glowing chandeliers hanging overhead were all a blur to Katherine Rowland as she rushed through the entrance of Mahala Suites dressed in a fabulous blue and purple gown. Bearing the brunt of three-inch, pointy black heels, she made a concentrated effort to avoid stepping on the names as she hurried across the diamond-shaped glass tiles towards the visitor’s counter. She thanked the young lady standing there for all of her assistance in organizing the event, and then headed towards Morven Hall. Sixty minutes late, Kat quietly crept into the candlelit ballroom. Squeezing through the guests seated at the close-knit, white linen clothed round tables she could barely see her friend, Trisha Ramsey, waving at her from across the room.
“Thanks for saving our seats,” Kat whispered across the table to Trisha.
“No problem,” Trisha said quietly. “Where’s Dre?”
“I don’t know,” Kat solemnly replied.
Marie Knight introduced Preston Evans, and everyone clapped as the attractive, confident, self-assured Black man stepped up to the podium.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We have all gathered here this evening to celebrate the growth of this wonderful community we know as Morven Town,” said Preston.
Trisha tapped lightly on the table with her cell phone for Kat’s attention after sending her a text message, ‘Like we don’t already know that.’
‘LOL,’ Kat typed, giggling softly.

About the Book
Jones, Evans & Knight is a fictional exploration of Black America through the lives of four women residing in Morven Town and employed at a prestigious Black-owned law firm. The inner working of a law firm is no different than any other corporate atmosphere, but Larenz Jones and Preston Evans (two of the Partners at JEK) were adamant about addressing the needs and concerns of their support staff. They understood the staff's views clearly enough to furnish a large office with a television, cozy seating and a fridge. It became the perfect place for the employees to escape and relax for a dose of emergency relief, hence the nickname the ER. However, there was one partner (Earl Knight) that had a different view on the staff’s obligations to the firm. Earl believed that employees should do whatever the attorney asked without question and it was evident in the way he treated his secretary, Katherine Rowland. He created a chaotic office environment and her stress was compounded as she struggled to raise three children with an absent husband. Kat would not be able to endure the day without her friends—Trisha Ramsey, the outspoken woman that encourages those around her to be strong and true to themselves; Darleen Reese, the gossip Queen at JEK, who tells everyone’s business except her own (and she has a few stories hidden); and Naomi Rouge, a woman that breezed into Morven Town in search of a place to rest when she stumbled into a position as receptionist at JEK (but no one knows where she came from and Naomi isn't offering any information). Let these ladies show you what friendship is all about as they laugh, cry, share secrets, work, learn, dine, and party together.

Melvese was born and raised in NYC, currently residing in Charlotte, NC. When she is not spending time with her children she enjoys writing and her love for words encouraged her decision to pursue a career as an author. She travels to different events around the country to promote our work. Speaking to people who have read or plan to read our story is the best.
Myhia has always dreamt of becoming an author but failed to pursue it. After years of struggling with the notion, she has found the courage and taken a leap of faith. Attempting to find her way to happiness through the expression of words she hopes that you will find the humor in life.
