Along the way, Stryker develops a romantic relationship with Roth’s wife, Sharon. Initially, Stryker views Sharon only as a way to get closer to Roth, but a genuine romance develops between them fueled by erotic and passionate encounters. This relationship adds to the central conflict. Their romance becomes a casualty of the war between Stryker and Roth.

Dr. John E. Mayer

Dr. John Mayer is a practicing Clinical Psychologist acclaimed for treating adolescents, children, families, violent and acting out patients, substance abusers and disorders of young adults. He received his doctorate from Northwestern University Medical School.

Dr. Mayer is the author of over 60 professional articles, most on family life, and 11 books! His latest non-fiction book, You’re not the Only One on this Planet! Is an amusing look at bad behavior in our society. The 3-Week Family Fat Cure, was released in January 2003. His newsletter- Mayer’s Memo- is widely acclaimed and is in its 17^th year. It is distributed to schools, institutions and then families from coast-to-coast.

Dr. Mayer is a Diplomate in both Clinical and Sports Psychology-this is the highest standing one can achieve in each field and a small number gaining this status around the country in one of these fields let alone both.

Dr. Mayer has received many awards and recognitions. Recently, he has been named by Cambridge (England) as one of the Outstanding Scientists of the 20^th Century for his work on helping to change our approach to drug abuse in families.
