His Name Forever

For almost 2000 years, there has been little change in the way people learn and comprehend biblical concepts. We continue to rely on others to tell us what is important in regards to faith matters. Those who we turn to for spiritual direction are often church leaders, pastors, theologians, and Christian teachers. Naturally, they mainly pass on what they themselves have been taught to be important. Unfortunately, the Most High's name was not one of the important facts passed along. For most Christians, the primary emphasis on what is spiritually important is to know Jesus. And when it comes to names, most people are told that the only name that matters is the name of Jesus. Actually, most people could read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, the entire content of the Old Testament and the New Testament, without a clue as to the name of the Most High. In what is called The Lord's Prayer, it is this name that even the Messiah, himself, reverenced when he said “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed it be thy name…” (Matthew 6:9 KJV).

The bottom line to all of this is that, throughout the years, it has become acceptable to have a higher power that was identified merely as God or the Lord. It is acceptable to the church leaders and to the people who choose to worship Him. But what about to the Most High? Do you really think it acceptable to Him for us to just call Him "God" or "the Lord"? The clergy and church leadership over the past two hundred centuries have developed Christian and church doctrine as well as dictated the direction of Christian thought. They have largely done nothing to enlighten the public on the Creator's name and its importance. Laypeople, meanwhile, have not made a hearty effort to demand to truly know the holy name. But His name is important. After all, the Almighty proclaimed His name from the mountaintops when He revealed Himself to Moses.

Appointed by the Most High to lead the Israelites, His chosen people, out of their enslavement in Egypt, Moses had developed a unique relationship with Him. This close relationship was necessary, for there was much that the Most High needed to teach His chosen people so that they would know how to properly worship Him and live in the land He had promised to them. Moses was the man chosen to speak the Mighty One's words to His people. As this fascinating relationship developed, Moses longed to see the Mighty One's face and boldly asked this of Him. Although he did not get to see Him face to face, Moses saw Him pass by as He declared His own name in a moving self-proclamation (Exodus 33:18 -34:8).

The Mighty One of Israel has never kept His name from us. If He made His name known then, why don't we know it today? Who has kept it from us and why? Those were the questions I struggled to find answers to as I began this journey of finding the story behind the name of God.

This book is written as an introduction to some readers and a reintroduction to others to the Heavenly Father by His name and not just His character. As you read the upcoming chapters, you will be able to see how that “great” and “wonderful” name became buried over the years and tucked away from many Bible readers and believers. You will be challenged to consider three questions. First, why was the name kept from people? Second, who benefited from this? And, last, what possible harm has been the result of this concealment? As you come to see and note the name in the Scriptures and understand its importance, hopefully you will come to the conclusion that your own understanding, worship, and walk would be so much different if you knew and appreciated the “great” and “wonderful” name of the Mighty One of Israel.

This book will settle the mystery of His true name. It is He of whom the Bible is written and of whom the world has come to know as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In revealing His name, this book will try to encourage respectful, reverent usage of the name by those who claim to have or seek a relationship with Him.
