WHERE’S MAYBERRY? I look back on my youth and I remember as a child. Mama would sit on the porch in her favorite rocking chair. We played baseball in the backyard and slept with the windows open. We might grow up to be a fireman or play ball with one of the famous teams. We thought our parents would live forever and that Santa Claus was real. We spoke when we passed others on the street and greeted each one with a smile. When we thought of drugs, it was to fight off a cold or the flu. I look at the world around today and my heart breaks within. My children listen as I paint my memories in the portals of their mind. Was I happy years ago? The adjective I will use is VERY. Life was laid back, winter was cold, and fall was mild.
We loved our neighbors and we started every school day with prayer.
We dreamed of being rich one day. We wished on a star. We were thinking, hoping.
We would live in a world of peace where one could fulfill their dreams.
We were taught to love our fellow man and give thought to how they feel.
When a friend asked for a helping hand we were willing to go the extra mile.
You didn’t have to use vulgarity when you wanted to get a laugh or two.
What happened to the innocence of youth? Will it ever be simple again?
They think that I am old fashioned and the world seems dull I left behind.
Tell me mister; do you know how I can find my way back home to Mayberry?

About the Book
In the 1980s I found the ash heap visited by Job. It was the hardest time of my life. When life was at its bleakest I held on to a belief, and prayed, my life would return to some sense of normalcy. REFLECTIONS will take you through the good and the hard times in my life. You will encounter individuals who directly affected the person I am today. I have known what it was like to be both exalted and abased. "NO MATTER HOW HARD THE PATHS, ANGEL OF MERCY, YOU ARE NOT ALONE" will give you an insight into some of those times. "KEEP ON KEEPING ON" offers words of encouragement when life is beating you down. "I WILL DO WHAT I HAVE SAID" is an instruction for you to hold on and believe God for your answer. "I NEVER STAND ALONE" is powerful. I witnessed thousands rededicate their lives to God after hearing this verse. You will laugh. You will cry. You will definitely be moved and find a new appreciation for this gift called LIFE, knowing that all of the trials you encounter are worth the greatest gift of all: the opportunity for salvation!
About the Author
Wayne Clendening has overcome a tremendous amount of trials in his life. Wayne has met adversity with strength and courage and has become very successful by today’s standards. He is a truly self-made individual rising from selling papers, at age five, on a street corner in Atlanta, to the corporate offices of a Fortune 50 company. Many others along the way touched Wayne’s life. Through his encounters in life Wayne has uniquely captured his inspiration in verse. Wayne’s poetry has received recognition from several noted government leaders. Those leaders include the president of the United States, the governor of Georgia, and several Georgia legislative members. Wayne is married to Angela who is his greatest earthly source of strength. Wayne is a father and stepfather of five children and five grandchildren to date. Walk with Wayne as he pauses to reflect on the road he has traveled and the people he encountered along the way.
