About the Book

The book is a modern version of George Orwell's novel "1984 projected 100 years into the future. It was originally intended to be a sequel to the author’s first book but soon developed into a science fiction novel. Following a nuclear attack on the west coast of the United States by the mentally unstable North Korean dictator, a worldwide "planetary system of government developed to assure that deviant forms of terrorism no longer exist. Emphasizing strict adherence to governing council regulations prohibiting citizen dissent, it soon becomes a militaristic, totalitarian society requiring dedication to the "common good" with little respect for individual rights. Although mankind has established colonies on the moon and the planet Mars, society is still coping with what appears to be the eternal struggle for freedom. It takes the rugged pioneering spirit of the inhabitants of Mars to incite a revolution that will eventually result in the reemergence of original democratic ideals.

About the Author

The author is a retired Chemical Engineer with over 35 years experience as a Process / Project Engineer for a large San Francisco engineering firm. He has always been intrigued by science fiction and the exploration of the frontiers of space, even before the historic U.S.-Russian space race to the moon of the 60's and '70's. 2084, Mars, A New World is his first attempt at predicting the future of mankind's endeavor to expand their presence to other planets of the solar system and beyond. It also reflects his concerns of the possible state of the community on Earth in the year 2084, given the current political climate of the nations of the world. As he has stated on his web site (http://robertkaiser.com) he is currently enjoying his retirement in an east bay suburb of San Francisco and welcomes you to visit this site for further information.
