Quest for Freedom

I can begin my story anywhere, but I believe it would make more sense if I started from the very beginning.  The great Blue Dragon created my world approximately two thousand years ago.  Humans, elves, half elves, dwarves, and animals, including dragons of all colors, lived in peace with one another, until one hazy day.

As I have been told, one of the high ranking black dragons decided it was not right for a single blue dragon to be in any position to be in command, so he challenged his foe to a battle to the death; winner take everything.  Because he loved a good fight and knew this was an easy one, the Dragon Lord readily accepted, for no one had ever beaten this blue dragon.

There were many who followed the Dragon Lord, including his eight disciples, who were given special powers for their deeds to him.  Each disciple was assigned a color, and with that, made a gem.  The white gem belonged to Sylvia.  Tonya was responsible for the yellow gem.  Orange was Nicholas' color.  Red was Scarlet's favorite.  Kaizer, the Dragon Lord's pet, had control over blue.  Gareth had the purple gem.  Sieta's was green, and last and definitely least, in my opinion, Tashe's gem was black.  The eight of them realized that if they put all of the jewels together, they would in fact create a kind of "super gem", capable of extraordinary powers beyond belief should the need arise.

Everyone watched in awe as the battle raged on for days.  Then, to make a long story short, the black dragon, surprisingly claiming victory, had his maker on the ground.  The dragon's disciples, however, had put their ultimate plan to work, and attempted to capture the black dragon.  The fiendish creature, on the other hand, had plans of his own.  It is not certain how he found out about the followers' agenda, but before being sucked into the gem, he grabbed the humiliated blue dragon without warning causing both of them to be hopelessly trapped in a different dimension.

Once this happened, however, the gem split back into its eight original sub parts and disappeared.  The disciples, as well, were thrust into different corners of the world.  It has been said that the possessor of each gem knew where his or her color was hidden, but could not make the trip alone to retrieve it or any other.  It was told that if all the gems were again put together, they could summon the Dragon Lord to rule our world once more.  So, here we are about two thousand years later and ready to start the adventure…

My name is David.  The world of Granod is a very different place from what it once was.  Women were the rulers, and men were nothing but slaves to them.  I was born into it, as most men were, so a slave was all I knew how to be.  I was told to do everything imaginable and gaining nothing but humiliation and fear from it.  So, one day while my master and her daughter were away, I gathered my meager belongings, and any hope that was still inside me, and I ran away.  I did not know where I would go or what I would do once I got there, but at least I was free.

For how long was I free? I began to wonder as I saw "wanted alive" signs posted around town.  Actually at that point, I could not read.  I saw my picture on them.  Then I started to think, I mean, how far could a seventeen-year-old slave with no money, no job, and nowhere to go get without being caught?
