LESSON 4

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
1. PREPARE ta and titi
2. PRESENT pitch, melody and contour
3. PRACTICE writing contour

BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES; students will;
1. Learn a new rhyme. (INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVE 1)
2. Learn the definitions for pitch, melody, and contour. (INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVE 2)
3. Write the words of a familiar song in contour. (INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVE 3)

MATERIALS; 1. RHYME; “BEE, BEE BUMBLE BEE.” 2. SMALL FLANNEL BOARDS AND FELT CIRCLES.  LARGE FLANNEL BOARD FOR TEACHER.  3. MAGNETIC BOARD, MAGNETIC WORDS FOR “RAIN, RAIN.”

PROCEDURE:
1. GREETING; sung as Hel- lo child-dren. (class) Hel-lo teach-er.
2. OPENING; Familiar songs and rhymes.  On these they will;
            a.  Sing or say the words and clap the beat.
            b.  Do some form of part work.

STATE OBJECTIVES;

3. NEW RHYME; “Bee, Bee Bumble Bee.” On this they will;
            a.  Learn the rhyme by rote.
            b.  Clap the beat and say the words.

            c.  Clap the way the words go.

            d.  Use inner hearing to internalize the rhyme.

4. PRESENT PITCH, MELODY, AND CONTOUR; method of presentation;
            a.  Define each term.

b.  Distribute flannel boards and four felt circles.  Rules are given for using these materials.
c.  Teacher models what is to be done.  Students are instructed to place four circles in a high, low, or repeated pattern according to what they hear sung on a loo.
            1.  Teacher sings the pattern on a loo;
                        loo        loo
                              loo        loo
            2.  Students sing answer as;
                        high      high
                               low                    low
            3.  Students place felt circles on flannel board showing the contour of the pattern.
            4.  Teacher places circles on big flannel board so students can check their answers.

5. WRITING ACTIVITY; Teacher with class assistance will write the words of a familiar song in contour on the magnetic board.
            a.  Teacher places word to “Rain, Rain” on the magnetic board in a straight line.
            b.  Teacher sings the words as they look on one tone.
                        (q) Is this the tune of this song? (ans.) no
            c.  Teacher: “I will sing the song again and you will tell me if the word is to be moved high, low, or remain in the same place.”
            d.  After the song has been written in contour
